Remedial massage

Why remedial massage in Cannington is worth booking ahead for

By Mudita, Remedial Massage Therapist at Essential TCM Wellness

There's a particular kind of tired that doesn't go away with a good night's sleep. Tight shoulders that have crept up around your ears. A lower back that's been "fine, just a bit sore" for three months. If that sounds familiar, remedial massage might be exactly what you've been putting off booking.

What remedial massage actually does

Remedial massage is a targeted, therapeutic form of massage designed to address specific areas of muscular tension, restricted movement, or discomfort, rather than a general relaxation treatment alone. I assess how you're moving, ask about your pain or tension patterns, and work specifically on what your body needs that day. That might mean focused deep tissue work on a tight upper back, or a broader full-body session to support general circulation and recovery.

Many people come in after a long stretch of desk work, physical labour, training for an event, or simply carrying stress in their body without realising how much tension has built up.

By appointment, on request — and why that's intentional

I see a limited number of clients each week, by appointment request. This isn't a booking inconvenience, it's a deliberate choice. It means I can give each session real focus and time, rather than rushing between back-to-back appointments. If you're used to chain-massage clinics where you're never quite sure who you'll see, this is the opposite of that experience.

To book our acupuncture and remedial massage services , simply get in touch and I'll confirm a time that works for both of us.

Health fund rebates

Remedial massage is eligible for rebates under many private health insurance extras policies. I'd recommend checking your specific level of cover with your provider before your appointment, as policies and rebate amounts vary.

What to expect at your first session

I'll start by asking about your general health, any injuries, areas of concern, and what you're hoping to get out of the session. There's no pressure to have specific answers, plenty of people simply know "my shoulders are always tight" and that's a completely valid starting point. From there, I'll talk you through the plan for the session before we begin.

Frequently asked questions

How is remedial massage different from a relaxation massage?
Remedial massage is more targeted and assessment-based, focused on specific muscular or movement concerns, whereas relaxation massage is generally broader and less clinically focused. Many sessions include elements of both.

Will it hurt?
Deep tissue work on a genuinely tight area can feel intense, but it shouldn't be sharply painful. I always check in during the session and adjust pressure to what's right for you.

Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to book a remedial massage appointment.

Carrying tension you've been meaning to deal with?

I take a limited number of clients each week, by appointment request, at Essential TCM Wellness, East Cannington.
